Craig Thomson was at the centre of another incredible penalty controversy on Tuesday night but since it didn’t benefit Celtic you may not be aware of it.

With Dunfermline leading Hamilton 1-0 the Championship side were three minutes away from a quarter final visit to Ibrox.

Hamilton had had a couple of half hearted penalty claims turned down when Scott McMann picked up the ball 30 yards from goal.

As he approached the penalty McMann decided to run into Callum Morris. Contact was at least a foot outside the box, Morris did little other than attempt to play the ball but from within five yards of the incident Thomson awarded a penalty racing into the box to add to the drama.

Rakish Bingham scored from the penalty spot to take the tie into extra time with Accies going on to win on penalties.

It’s unknown if Thomson has phoned Dunfermline boss Allan Johnston to apologise, on Sunday, Thomson will referee the Dundee v Sevco in a game televised live by Sky Sports.
