Murty’s living nightmare

As he prepares for Friday’s trip to Inverness who knows what frame of mind Graeme Murty is in.

Taking charge of the squad that he inherited from Mark Warburton is a big enough job but working under the shadow of spin must be soul destroying.

After being told by Stewart Robertson that he had the managers job for the foreseeable future the former Reading favourite couldn’t help but notice stories involving ‘PA Sport understands’ claiming that the Ibrox club had started interviewing for two vacancies.

On one extreme some are trying to float the idea that Alan Pardew or Frank de Boer will risk their generous gardening leave in order to work with Andy Halliday and Martyn Waghorn.

At the other end of the scale, looking for a Director of Football to appoint Pards or Frankie bhoy, we have reports that 26-year-old Robert Rowan, currently D of F at Brentford has already discussed the job.

After getting a job as an intern Robert boasted about his work with Dundee United and Raith Rovers under-9 squads.

Ross Wilson of Southampton has a far better pedigree, which makes his even less likely to ditch a top job in the Premier League to accept the blame as Celtic move towards seven-in-a-row.

All of these talks about talks buys the Ibrox board time, since time is free that comes in pretty handy as payday inches closer.

At Murray Park today Murts will take training with a group of players who, with the exceptions of Lee Wallace and Kenny Miller, owe everything in their careers to Mark Warburton.

Should a new management team come in it will be curtains for Wes, Waggers, Tavers, Holty and the rest of them, and Murts.

Having watched the undignified way that their mentor Warbs was ditched the players know what is coming their way.

As #goingfor55 becomes a bigger laughing stock every day fans across Scotland are looking on with delight, especially those of Inverness, Hamilton and St Johnstone with one red letter date coming up on March 12 that no one at Ibrox wishes to think about- or take responsibility for.
