Liam Henderson had to take a back seat as his ‘kids’ Jason Cummings and John McGinn destroyed Hearts 3-1 in last night’s Scottish Cup replay at Easter Road.

Last May the Celtic midfielder was at the heart of the action as the Edinburgh side ended a 112 year hoodoo to lift the Scottish Cup.

That afternoon at Hampden was the highlight of a season long loan for Henderson as he became a Hibs legend after decades of cup misery.

Football was a casualty when Tynecastle hosted the two teams ten days ago but last night Hibs turned on the style to crush their city rivals.

Cummings opened the scoring for Hibs in the 21st minute, Grant Holt doubled the lead in the 37th minute with Andrew Shinnie putting the match beyond Hearts early in the second half.

Neil Lennon had slaughtered his side after Saturday’s 1-1 draw away to Raith Rovers but got the perfect response last night.

Hibs now face Ayr United for a place in the semi-finals, a win in that tie and they could meet up with Henderson and Celtic in a return to Hampden.
