Cash strapped Sevco face another costly legal bill after a Judge slammed them for wasting time with an action against Sports Direct.

Dave King’s merry men have been trying everything over the last two years to get out of the deals set up for the club by founding father Charles Green with the sportwear giants.

In 2012 Ashley took Sevco on board setting up a retail deal that saw their merchandise available throughout the Sports Direct empire.

Included in the deal was naming rights to the stadium which haven’t yet been used. Sports Direct has extensive advertising both pitchside and across the stadium.

Rather than make the best of the deal while serving notice to end it King has tried everything possible to try and get out of the complex deal that involves a separate company- Rangers Retail.

STV reported today’s developments as: During a two-hour hearing, lawyers acting for Rangers tried to amend the legal document which detailed what they wanted to recover.

The advocates representing Mr Green, Mr Ahmad, Mr Stockbridge, Mr Llambias, Sports Direct and Mr Ashley objected to the proposed changes.

They argued they needed time to consult their clients about the amended proposals.

This prompted lawyers acting for Rangers to withdraw the proposed amendments and stop the bid to recover the documents.

Lawyers acting for the defenders in the case then asked the court for Rangers to pay their legal costs for the hearing as Thursday’s proceedings were “unnecessary”.

Judge Lord Brailsford agreed with the submissions made by the lawyers appearing for the five men and Sports Direct.

He added: “Today’s hearing has been unnecessary and I award each of the defenders their expenses.”

In a counter action Sports Direct have made a personal claim against Mr King and Mr Murray for failing to honour the Rangers Retail contract.

After taking control of Sevco in March 2015 King was forced to repay a £5m loan made to the club by Sports Direct with Ashley remaining a significant shareholder in the crisis company.

Meanwhile Stewart Robertson is continuing the search from several outstanding candidates to appoint a successor to Mark Warburton.
