Martyn Waghorn believes that his Sevco team-mates are the side most likely to end Celtic’s 32 match unbeaten domestic record.
The former Wigan goal ace has netted five times in the top flight and is likely to lead the line on Sunday against Brendan Rodgers side.
With Joey Garner suspended and Kenny Miller suffering a mystery injury at half-time in the win over Hamilton Accies most of Sevco’s goal threat will be on the bulky shoulders of Waggers.
Showing no awareness of his side’s Premiership record of 13 wins from 17 matches he told the Daily Record: “Of course we can get a result at Celtic. We must believe in ourselves. We are playing some good stuff. We have turned the corner after a difficult few weeks.
“The result last Wednesday (a 3-2 win over St Johnstone) was a huge boost and the performance against Hamilton was something we can really build on. Against Celtic it’s all about self-belief.
“We will go there with a lot of confidence. If anyone can beat them it’s going to be us. We need to be right on our game but it’s an Old Firm game and anything can happen.
“It’s all about who turns up on the day and we would like to make up for the last time. It was hugely disappointing. We were caught right off it, we weren’t good enough on the day.
“We’ve looked at it and we’ve accepted it. It was hard to take but that’s in the past. I would say we have a different team from then, different players, and the way we’re playing at the minute can only be good for us.”
Waggers has certainly brushed up on his derby day cliches but is likely to find breaking down the Celtic defence more difficult.
Thirteen wins out of 27 matches tells it’s own story with a goal difference of plus five.
Sevco go into Sunday’s match trailing Celtic by 33 points and are 52 goals worse off in terms of goal difference.
