Carl Starfelt has spoken out about the change of mindset that Ange Postecoglou has brought to his game.

Last July the defender was one of the first signings of the new regime, joining in a £4m transfer from Rubin Kazan as Postecoglou set about reconstructing the Celtic defence.

Playing out from the back is an essential part of the way that the former Socceroos boss wants to see the game played with Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers often having more touches on the ball than their team-mates.

There were a few teething problems but Postecoglou isn’t a man to compromise with Starfelt explaining to the Celtic website exactly how he is expected to play the game.

Here, you are put on the edge all of the time and you need to have the bravery to still do these things knowing that if you miss a pass or have a bad defensive action you have no one to cover up for you.

That mentality has changed a lot for me and it’s why I think you develop a lot more when you are put on the edge, not only in games but in training as well. The manager has been really good and he’s the one that wants us to play this type of way and take risks.

He’s also the one who backs his players if they make a mistake on the pitch and he’s been very clear about the fact that we don’t have to worry about mistakes and to have a positive mind-set and play our game and follow the match plan.

Starfelt finished the season back in the Swedish international side after missing out on a place at last year’s European Championships.

An injury in the Nations League qualifier away to Slovenia looked concerning but over the weekend the defender posted a video clip on Instagram of a thorough training session on the beach.
