Celtic are reported to have discussions scheduled for the transfer of Vinicius Souza.

The midfielder has a complicated ownership set up which is described as 60% City Football Group which isn’t a club. Last season Souza played on loan for KV Mechelen but is apparently owned by Lommel, part of the City Football Group.

In the Daily Mail, McGowan explains:

Celtic have joined the list of clubs pursuing Brazilian holding midfielder Vinicius Souza.

The 22-year-old is 60-per-cent owned by the City Football Group, the Manchester City parent company from which Celtic hired coach Ange Postecoglou and head of recruitment Mark Lawwell.

Placed with Lommel – the City Group’s Belgian club – Souza impressed during a season-long loan at KV Mechelen.

Expected to head back out on loan next season, Celtic have scheduled discussions with the Brazilian’s representatives.

Fenerbahce, Club Brugge and Bologna have also declared an interest, with the Scottish champions facing a battle to persuade the former Flamengo central midfielder that his immediate future lies in the SPFL.

Bringing a player in on loan would be a Plan B for Postecoglou as he enters his third transfer window with this move likely to have been prompted by Mark Lawwell.

Celtic appear fairly strong in midfield despite letting Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton leave last month.

Three midfielders were signed in January to add to Callum McGregor and avid Turnbull with James McCarthy brought in during Postecoglou’s summer transfer business. Ismaila Soro is still at the club but likely to be moving on.

With Celtic heading to an Austrian training camp at the start of July transfer activity is expected to increase with the club able to offer the lure of guaranteed Champions League football.
