Celtic are reported to be close to signing a left-back to compete with Greg Taylor.

Alexandro Bernabei of Lanus is the transfer target according to Mark Hendry of Football Scotland.

Hendry isn’t a name associated with breaking Celtic transfer news but seems fairly certain about their intentions to sign the Argentinian.

Mohaned Jeahze of Hammerby has been strongly linked with a move to Celtic but at this stage in the transfer window clubs will have a couple of options with leaks being made to sniff out how genuine interest is.

Tonight, Football Scotland reports:

Celtic are closing in on Alexandro Bernabei of Lanus. The left-back, 21, has been the subject of interest from Hoops scouts for a while and the club are hoping to sort a deal.

Ange Postecoglou has been looking for a defender to rival Greg Taylor on the left-hand side.

Celts were rumoured to be monitoring his teammate Julian Aude but it’s Bernabei who interesting the Scottish champions.

He made 24 appearances and provided two assists for Lanus in the Primera Division this season. The defender has been capped at U19 level for his country and is now set for a move to Europe.

Celtic have never had an Argentinan player before, the last South American was also a left-back but Diego Laxalt is a name that most fans would rather forget.

Bringing in a player from another continent is a big risk but with three of his four J-League signings making an instant impact Postecoglou has a good strike rate in his favour.

According to Transfermarkt, Bernabei is under contract until June 2023 which makes the summer window vital to both the player and his club, Lanus.
