Celtic are believed to be showing interest in Metz midfielder Amadou Mbengue.

The 20-year-old made 12 Ligue 1 appearances in the season just finished and appears to be out of contract at the end of this month.

Defensive midfielders seem to be the focus of Celtic transfer speculation with Alfa Semedo of Vitoria Guimares and Lommel’s Vinicius Souza also name checked over the last 10 days.

Adding some steel to midfield seems to be a priority for Ange Postecoglou but Mbengue’s lack of experience stands out with Celtic preparing for Champions League qualifiers in early September.

French website Footmercato:

If he started the 2021/2022 season with the reserve in National 2, the Senegalese midfielder was able to glean playing time in the first team of FC Metz, however not preventing the descent of the Garnets in Ligue 1. trainee contract until June 30, the player trained at FC Melun could leave France this summer.

We revealed it to you last January, two German clubs were interested in the 20-year-old defensive midfielder , who is also capable of playing in central defense. But while waiting for the new management of the Lorraine club, Celtic Glasgow and Udinese have come to information according to our information. The main interested party should wait for the proposal from the Metz leaders before making any decision.

With his contract about to expire Mbengue would only cost a development fee which is bound to interest a number of clubs.

In numbers terms Celtic are two short of midfielders after Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic left the club although Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi were brought to the club in January.

Ange Postecoglou still has Scott Robertson and Liam Shaw in a similar age bracket to Mbengue but it seems unlikely that last season’s loan spells will have pushed them towards first team contention at Celtic.
