The father of Frankie Deane has tweeted that his son has left Celtic to join Burnley.

Frankie made a number of appearances for the B team in the Lowland League but will go into the Burnley set-up for the new season that includes an u-23 Reserve League.

At the age of 17 he could have played in the Lowland League and UEFA Youth League this season but it is unclear whether he was released or turned down a contract offer from Celtic.

This morning Michael Deane, father of Frankie tweeted:

Really proud of Frankie signing for Burnley this morning. What a fantastic opportunity at a brilliant club with unbelievable facilities. Make your dreams come true kiddo.

This situation together with Dylan Reid turning down the chance to move from St Mirren to Celtic highlights the dilemma Celtic has with no real pathway from the Academy set up into the first team squad.

Tony Ralston’s ‘tourist route’ is hardly a template to follow after being completely written off with previous managements preferring Hatem Abd Elhamed, Moritz Bauer, Jeremie Frimpong, Lee O’Connor and Jonjoe Kenny before Ange Postecoglou offered a reprieve which Ralston accepted.

Stephen Welsh and Mikey Johnston are both in and around the first team but when everyone is fit and available neither is likely to make it into a starting XI.
