Disappointment from Hong Kong

|

Holders Celtic lost 2-0 to Rangers at the Hong Kong Sevens this morning.

Two second half goals from Andrew Shinnie gave Rangers the victory with the Ibrox side facing Sunderland in the semi final.

It’s not all over however for Danny McGrain’s side who drop into the Shield Event where they will face Tai Po at approximately 4pm local time.

The Shield is the equivalent of the Europa League where teams that lose out in the Cup (Champions League) compete in.

Ajax who lost out to Aston Villa in their Cup quarter final will play the loser of the Birmingham City v West Ham quarter final.

Despite the loss to Rangers today the season is far from over for the globe trotting young hoops.

On Friday most of the Hong Kong squad travel to Germany for the Spax Cup where Celtic have been drawn alongside Anderlecht, Wolfsburg and Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Also taking part in the competition will be hosts TPS Ennepetal, Hamburg, Gremio of Brazil and Sparta Prague.

The competition is spread over three days 23,24,25 May with the host town a short train journey south of Dortmund.
