Robbie Keane: Who knows I could be back one day

|

Robbie Keane has dropped the first hint about a return to Celtic by admitting ‘who knows, I could be back one day’.

Speculation about the striker’s future will be rife throughout the summer with a return to Celtic clearly an option.

Despite failing to pick up any silverware during his loan spell Keane bagged 16 goals in 19 appearances and was voted Supporters’ Player of the Year in an official club poll.

Speaking about his time at Parkhead Keane said: “The supporters have been fantastic to me since day one.

“There was a lot of pressure on me to come here and score goals- I was in a lose-lose situation to be honest. People expected me to score goals, if I didn’t they’d say that I should be scoring because of the hype around coming here.

“I think that I’ve proved myself, I’ve scored a lot of goals and hopefully that’ll be enough for the supporters. Who knows I could be back one day.”

There is still no indications from Celtic on who will be manager next season but Keane believes that the club shouldn’t look beyond caretaker boss Neil Lennon.

The striker told Channel 67: “I really hope that Lenny does get the job. I think that he has the attributes to become a great manager.

“He’s very vocal and knows his football. You can’t give anyone else his passion for this club, if anyone deserves to get the job it’s him and I’ll be hoping that he does get it.

“I hope that the fans have enjoyed my stay here. I certainly enjoyed it, playing in front of fantastic supporters.

“This is something that I’ve always wanted to do, I wouldn’t change it for the world and will look back with fond memories.

“As a kid I’ve always wanted to play here, playing in front of a full house against Rangers and winning was very nice.

“I wish the fans well for the future, hopefully Celtic can get back to where they belong.”
