Celtic youths settle for fourth place in Eurofoot Cup

|

A penalty shoot-out defeat from Brondby meant that Celtic’s u-19 side had to settle for fourth place in weekend Eurofoot Cup in Belgium.

Stevie Frail’s side had lost 2-0 to Spurs in the semi-final then looked on as Botafogo, who Celtic beat in Group A, lifted the trophy beating Spurs 1-0 in the final.

In the third place play-off Patrik Twardzik scored for Celtic but after a 1-1 draw Brondby won 4-3 on penalties.

“We’re obviously disappointed at losing our semi final but it’s been money in the bank for the boys in terms of fitness,” Frail explained.

“They’ve played seven games over three days which in terms of minutes is the equivalent of four games in three days.

“Botafogo only lost one goal in the entire tournament and that was when we beat them thanks to a Patrik Twardzik goal.

“Jordan Lowdon was voted as player of the tournament and that’s a big compliment for him.

“Last season we played him mainly at left-back but he’s back in centre midfield and put in some great performances.

“Lewis Toshney, Callum McGregor and Patrik Twardzik have all had good tournaments, that will help their confidence and fitness.

“Everything is geared towards the start of the league campaign and that’s three weeks away.

“We’ll now put in a solid week of training and have a game on Saturday away to Preston to look forward to.”
