Irn Bru ordered for Aidy Boothroyd, Weiss on Celtic

Neil Lennon has taken careful note of Aidy Boothroyd’s headline grabbing haggis jibe at Celtic last week.

Choosing to reveal details of discussions about the transfer of goalkeeper Keiren Westwood the Coventry boss claimed that Celtic had offered £3.50 and a bag of haggis.

That line went down a treat with the jock-bashers at Coventry who are hoping that the former Colchester boss can improve on last season’s 17th place finish in The Championship.

With Westwood in the final year of his Coventry contract Boothroyd can expect to lose the keeper for nothing next summer although there may be an improved deal arriving from Celtic.

Asked about the haggis comment Lennon warned: “I was annoyed, yes. It’s disrespectful but I will keep my counsel on that one for another day. If we add a couple of bottles of Irn Bru that should seal it.”

Meanwhile Rangers are likely to parade Vladimir Weiss today after securing the winger on loan from Manchester City.

Weiss was made available by City to go out on loan and spoke glowingly earlier this week about a possible move to Celtic.

He told the Daily Record: “I’d love to play for Celtic. It would be like a dream come true for me. The thing is, it’s okay me saying I’d love to go to Celtic but it’s not just up to me.

“Manchester City also have a say in where I go next. I need to speak to them and get their opinion of what is best for me.

“We trained on Sunday and I spoke to the manager. I told him there was interest from Celtic and I’d love to go.

“There are still a few more clubs who are interested so I’ll have to speak to my dad (Slovakian national team boss Vladimir) because it’s not an easy decision. But Celtic are a great club, a big club.”
