Neil Lennon praises The Green Brigade/Utrecht win again

|

Neil Lennon has publicly praised The Green Brigade after Celtic’s 4-0 win over St Mirren.

The ever expanding singing section were in full voice throughout the match and even arrived early to welcome the Celtic team bus when it arrived at the ground.

Lennon told the BBC: “I’ve got to pay credit to the supporters today, they responded and gave the players a lift.

“I’d like to give particular thanks to The Green Brigade who were waiting for the boys coming off the bus.

“They gave them an unbelievable reception, I’ve not seen that here for a long long time.”

Lennon added: “It was a great performance with a lot of pleasing aspects- another clean sheet and some of our attacking play was brilliant to watch.

“We’ve been trying to keep a lid on James Forrest, to protect him as much as we can but I couldn’t keep him out of the team any longer.

“He’s a special talent and excites people. Everything that he did today was positive, his quality at times is fantastic.”

The win took Lennon’s 100% SPL record to ten matches- ever since another 4-0 result against St Mirren earlier in the year.

Newcastle ‘keeper Fraser Foster is set to become Lennon’s tenth new signing when he arrives on loan tomorrow with just over a week’s business remaining before the transfer window is closed.

With every passing game the need for a ‘godfather/mentor’ to help Lennon is reduced but over the weekend the new boss spent time with Martin O’Neill’s trusted assistant John Robertson.

Lennon revealed: “I was fortunate enough to get an hour with John Robertson last night, he’s up for the weekend and you can’t better the experience and knowledge that you get from John.

“He had a massive influence on my career, I picked up some pointers from him.”

Meanwhile in Holland Thursday night’s Europa League opponents Utrecht won 3-0 away from home against bottom of the table Willem II.

The win lifts Utrecht into third place in the Eredevisie behind PSV Eindhoven and Ajax.

Willem II missed a 20th minute penalty and were punished when Ricky van Wolfswinkel converted a penalty for Utrecht two minutes later with Dries Mertens and van Wolfswinkel adding to the lead before the interval.

Just wondering if young James Forrest has an Irish Granny or Granda, now wouldn’t that be something if wee James declared for R. of Ireland, haha.It would send the laptop loyal and all the bigots, off on another wave of vile ranting and raving. Hail Hail

We can enjoy James Forrest of Celtic regardless of anyone else.

He’s been a regular for Scotland youth sides and should be in the u-21 team soon.

No need for distractions, I’m certain he’ll have a big part to play this season… and there are a few more of the youth team players not too far behind waiting on their chance.
