Six-pack Aiden McGeady scores his first goal for Spartak Moscow

|

GOAL!

He played on the left, he played on the right but Aiden McGeady never scored for Celtic with his six-pack!

Last night he managed that in the 77th minute of Spartak’s 2-2 home draw with Amkar Perm which leaves Spartak in fifth place in the championship 14 points behind leaders Zenit St Petersburg who have two games in hand.

Timing his run goalwards from the right flank to meet a cross from Dmitry Kombarova the former Celt bundled the ball into the net off his stomach and into the net.

The result does nothing for Spartak’s faint hopes of winning the title with third from bottom Amkar holding out for a point after twice going ahead.

McGeady does look increasingly comfortable in his new surroundings although there was only 15,000 fans present in the 78,000 seater stadium.

The Spartak website certainly seems to have warmed to their new signing saying: “The Irishman played with great passion and clearly deserved a goal.

“Opponents are not just once or twice come across on his sharp feints, Aiden literally terrorize the flank his opponent Miklos Gaal.

“I remember, Bystrov, this nimble Hungarian defender ‘eat’ several times but with the technical Irishman he was unable to cope.”

“That Makgidi, escaping from the guardian, has closed at the far post transfer Dmitry Kombarova 77 th minute.

“With wide effort, Aiden! After the game, the Irishman admitted that the first time in career scoring ball belly.”

The match had been brought forward to give Spartak an extra day to prepare for Tuesday’s Champions League clash at home to Zilina.

Aiden interviewed after his Spartak debut against Saturn.
