Emilio Izaguerri spared international duty

Emilio Izaguerri has been spared a gruelling international schedule in order to settle in at Celtic.

The impressive new left-back has been left out of the Honduras squad that plays El Salvador home and away over the weekend then travels to play Canada in Montreal on Tuesday.

That schedule will leave club managers despairing but after completing his £500,000 transfer to Celtic Izaguerri will have a full week’s training to prepare for Saturday’s home debut against Hearts.

The rest of Celtic’s international contingent will be spread far and wide over the next few days.

James Forrest is the first Celt in action with Scotland’s u-21s kicking off at 4pm away to Belarus.

Joe Ledley is next up with Wales, captained by Craig Bellamy, playing away against Montenegro with a 6.30pm kick off tonight.

Half an hour later Anthony Stokes will lead the line for Ireland u-21s in Switzerland with Richie Towell in the squad for the first time.

Over in Lithuania Scott Brown will be playing with a collection of current and former Rangers players against past, present and no doubt future Hearts players in a European Championship tie in Kaunus.

Daniel Majstorovic will be in the Sweden side looking to open their qualifying campaign with a win at home to Hungary with Georgios Samaras included in the Greece side that plays Georgia in Athens.

For reasons best known to himself Nigel Worthington has selected Kyle Lafferty, Warren Feeney and David Healy ahead of Paddy McCourt for Northern Ireland’s European qualifier with Slovenia.

A home win looks on the cards in that match with Motherwell’s Steven Craigan picking up his 50th international cap.

In the early hours of Sunday morning Efrain Juarez will be back in Mexico for the home match with Ecador, thankfully Mexico don’t have a midweek match giving the Celtic #4 plenty of time to return for the Hearts match.

There’s another full programme of European Championship qualifiers on Tuesday with Biram Kayal facing the long journey to Georgia for Isreal.

South Korean duo Ki Sung Yueng and Cha Du-Ri are in the squad to play Iran which kicks off at 11am UK time.
