Estonian relief for Gordon Strachan

|

Little known Estonian Tarmo Kink saved the day for Gordon Strachan with two late goals in Middlesbrough’s 2-1 win over Burnley.

Andre Bikey’s 65th minute header for the visitors looked ominous for Strachan with just 15,000 fans inside the Riverside Stadium following back to back defeats away to Barnsley and QPR.

Kink was a 75th minute replacement for captain Gary O’Neill and justified his manager’s faith by levelling the scores four minutes later then netting an injury time winner to send ‘Boro into mid-table.

On a Champions League night it was quite ironic that Kris Boyd was relegated to the bench as one of three changes to the team that capitulated at QPR on Saturday.

Scott McDonald, Barry Robson and Stephen McManus were all in the home side while the visitors included Danny Fox, Graham Alexander, Chris Iwelumo and former Rangers target Chris Eagles.

Elsewhere in the Championship Malky Mackay’s Watford had a great 2-0 away win at Bristol City whilst Darren O’Dea was missing from the Ipswich side that lost 3-0 at home to QPR.

Over in Sweden Henrik Larsson’s LboIS had a resounding 3-0 home win over Trollhatten which moves them five points clear of Assyriska in fifth place and puts LboIS in with a good chance of securing a play-off spot.

Tomorrow night Aiden McGeady will make his second appearance for Spartak Moscow away to Marseille in the Champions League.
