Neil Lennon delighted by Anthony 'the menace' Stokes

|

Neil Lennon has announced that he’s happy with his transfer window activity.

Like every manager he’d have liked to have added one or two more players with some business likely to be revived in January.

The debut of Emilio Izzaguirre at Motherwell and arrival of Anthony ‘the menace’ Stokes have pleased the Celtic boss who brought in eleven new faces after being given the job on a permanent basis.

Lennon’s new recruits have been scattered to the four corners of the planet on international duty this weekend but the new boss is looking forward to getting down to business once the international break is over.

He told Channel 67: “I’m pretty happy with how it all went. We got Anthony in on the last day of the window and I’m very pleased about that.

“Anthony is a menace. He wants to score goals, he wants to play on the shoulder of people. He wants to play for Celtic which is important.

“He has a good pedigree in the SPL-he scored 23 goals last season for Hibs and had a good spell at Falkirk where he did very well. He’s a hungry boy and I like his style of playing- he’ll really add to the firepower that we have and put away the chances that we’re creating.

“Emilio was terrific at Motherwell. He was very composed, very compact and the others really enjoyed playing with him.

“He immediately set up a good understanding with Shaun (Maloney). The two of them are intelligent players and as far as debuts go it’s as good as I’ve seen for a while.

“He’s composed on the ball, defended very well and gave us good balance on the left hand side.”

Looking at the window overall Lennon added: “I’d have liked to have brought in one more player but these things are there to test you. We knocked on the door a couple of times and were refused, sometimes there’s not a lot that you can do about that.

“There are some frustrations. There are some targets that you think you have a chance of, we were almost there with a couple but they fell by the wayside at the last minute. I’m sure that I’m not the only manager that has felt those frustrations. You see another dimension to the job and I’ll learn from that.

“A huge amount of work goes in to every signing. You do the research on the player, analyse his performances and see what they will bring to the club.

“Then you have the dealings with the club and agents, the to-ing and fro-ing over terms, contracts and other variables. It’s been good to watch and be part of the process.

“The window is shut now, we can settle things down and work with the squad although unfortunately most of them are away on international duty at the moment.

“There are possibilities for us to look at again in January, hopefully we’ll be in a position of strength but the focus now is to be consistent in the league.”
