Holy Goalie

Artur Boruc has admitted that he became lazy playing for Celtic.

The keeper moved to Italy during the summer and has no regrets despite still waiting to make his competitive debut for Fiorentina.

A decade ago after joining Leeds United Mark Viduka caused a storm when he said that he said that he could play at 80% for Celtic with Boruc expressing similar sentiments.

The ‘keeper’s waistline was usually a good indicator to his level of fitness with the fans favourite admitting that the adulation that he received was part of the reason that he had to quit Celtic.

“In Glasgow, I became a bit lazy because they all loved me no matter how I played,” Boruc told a Polish television station. “I loved Glasgow, however, at some point in life you must change.

“I know that at Fiorentina I have to work hard because, compared to Celtic I have to earn my space. Now is a different situation that involves more work for me.

“I came to Fiorentina because I wanted to go to play in a better championship. I love Italy, I feel good here and I have also begun to speak Italian.

“Now in Fiorentina I must make everyone understand my worth. I’m very ambitious and optimistic.”

Meanwhile Celtic stopper Daniel Majstorovic is preparing for one of his toughest international tests- away to World Cup finalists Holland on Tuesday.

Sweden have won both of their opening fixtures in Group E at home to Hungary and San Marino but will face a tougher test against the Dutch.

Holland won 1-0 last night away to Moldova thanks to a goal from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar who will be Majstorovic’s direct opponent.

The Shalke 04 striker has scored six goals in three qualifiers and is the main worry for Swedish boss Erik Hamren.

He said: “The Netherlands are second in the FIFA rankings and we are 32nd-there’s no doubt who the favourite is. I like to daydream from time to time though, and in my head we’ve played a number of matches against the Netherlands – and won them all!”

I had some right barneys with my Celtic mates over oor Artur…but he is now confirming what I was saying at the time…..unprofessional attitude at times bordering on arrogance….
no player is bigger than the Club….but at least he’s had the decency to admit to his shortcomings.
