Former Celts Rab Douglas and Barry Smith are likely to be put in charge of Dundee today.
The big spending First Division side will be put into administration this morning with Bryan Jackson of PKF put in charge of shredding the clubs running costs.
The current management duo of Gordon Chisholm and Billy Dodds are expected to be the first casualties despite only moving to the club in March following the sacking of Jocky Scott.
Speaking last night Chisholm said: “I will be turning up for work tomorrow ready to train the players ahead of the Stirling Albion game as normal.
“Obviously we all have this hanging over us and don’t know what the future holds but all we can do is remain professional. The players have been great throughout all this and have been a credit to themselves.
“It is a difficult time for everyone but we will continue to do our jobs and work hard for the club.”
Veteran Douglas is in his second spell at the club while former hoops full-back Smith is currently in charge of the Dundee youth side.
Going into administration is the only option available to the club who are unable to meet a tax bill of £365,000.
The Dundee players and management team were given the day off yesterday but will report to Dens Park this morning for what is bound to be an emotional day.
Moving into administration could throw the First Division and the Scottish League into chaos with no set penalty in place.
Livingston were demoted two divisions for their own financial problems two years ago with Gretna going out of the league entirely after being relegated to the Third Division.
Dundee are due to play Stirling Albion on Saturday but that fixture could be in doubt with concerns over who will be in charge of Dundee and what sort of side they can field.
Sympathy for the club is thin on the ground within the First Division with Morton chairman Douglas Rae far from sympathetic.
He said: “My disappointment for Dundee is softened by the fact they have spent crazily and you reap the disadvantages of such a policy
“They thought they were going back to the SPL but they gambled and they lost. If you gamble you have to be prepared to lose.”
Milan Misun’s month long loan at Dens Park seems certain to be cut short whilst former Celts Charlie Grant and Gary Irvine will be sweating over their future’s after joining the club this season.

Interested to see how the SFL react to this mess since they have no fixed procedure for clubs going into administration.
After the Livingston fiasco (whose relegation to Div 3 was more of a punishment to teams in that league than to Livvy themselves) I wouldn’t be surprised is Dundee would only get a slap on the wrist, being established as they are.
Level playing field? Let’s wait and see…
This seems a tad harsh…does it not? If this is what is happening over this tax bill surely Rangers are next.
ex-Celt Nicky Riley is also at Dundee.
I don’t think charlie grant has featured for them yet this since his move there.
