Marc Crosas eyes up midfield chance

Marc Crosas has told Neil Lennon that he’s ready to answer his midfield emergency.

The former Barcelona midfielder is in his third season at Celtic- and third manager- but has still to nail down a regular place.

Crosas looked to be on his way out during the summer when Biram Kayal, Efrain Juarez and Joe Ledley were signed pushing him down the pecking order for midfield places.

Injuries to captain Scott Brown and Juarez have narrowed down Lennon’s midfield options with Crosas hoping that yesterday’s performance away to Bohemians can help him into the manager’s plans.

He said: “It is always sad when a team-mate gets injured, but I have been working all this time and waiting for an opportunity.

“Biram is injured as well and it is sad, if your opportunity comes as a result of that but if it comes I am going to take it. That’s why I have been working hard because if the manager asks me I have to be ready.

“I’ve been playing reserve games all season and have been using them to make sure I am fit and ready. Now I know I am ready, I have been ready all season. Now it is up to the manager to make the decision.

“Every player wants to play and of course if you are not playing you are not happy. I just take the decision of the manager, that’s what I have to do.

“Of course it is frustrating when you are not playing. When you are away from home, like I am, you want to play. My job is playing football and if I am not playing I am not happy.

“It’s my job and I need to be ready and if the chance comes I have to take it. We have been playing reserve games all season at Lennoxtown and also some games away from home to try and get fit.”

With the first derby match of the season with Rangers less than a fortnight away Lennon could do with having as many options as possible.

The injuries to Brown and Kayal have come at the worst possible time with the Celtic boss admitting that his captain could be out of action until the new year.

Lennon said: “It’s a big blow because Scott is a pivotal player for us and his performances have been very good. We’re just concerned about the length of time he could be out.

“We’re not too sure about the whole extent of the injury yet, we’ll know more this week. If he does need surgery it will be ripping the guts out of 12 weeks.”
