Martin O'Neill enters the manager betting at Liverpool

Martin O’Neill has been installed as 7/2 second favourite by Ladbrokes to replace Roy Hodgson as Liverpool manager.

Former Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is the even money favourite for the job despite being out of management for over ten years.

Hodgson is under major pressure with Liverpool sitting at the bottom of the Premiership and about to face Everton at Goodison on Sunday.

Over the weekend it emerged that there was a termination clause in the former Fulham manager’s contract if there was a change of ownership at the club.

The warring factions in the Anfield boardroom will be in court today over the proposed sale of the club to the New England Sports Venture group owned by John Henry.

Singapore billionaire Peter Lim has emerged as a potential new buyer with current owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks desperate to get the maximum price for their investment.

The confusion in the boardroom and desperate results on the park create the perfect scenario for O’Neill to enter the fray as trouble shooter.

At Celtic, Leicester and Aston Villa he quickly installed discipline and success which are badly needed at Anfield.

The biggest obstacle to O’Neill moving to Liverpool is the continuing presence of Kenny Dalglish at the club as Academy Ambassador.

Liverpool fans were chanting for Dalglish’s return after the 2-1 home defeat from Blackpool but there is no way that O’Neill and Dalglish would work together.

O’Neill is very much his own man and removed Dalglish from his Director of Football role in one of his first acts at Celtic.

Dalglish is currently promoting his book ‘My Liverpool Home’ but is refusing to discuss the current takeover of the club.

The book charts his relationship with Liverpool since moving to Anfield from Celtic in 1977.

Tonight the record Scotland cap holder will join Alan Rough and Ewan Cameron for Real Radio’s coverage of the Scotland-Spain match from Hampden.

You people need to stop talking about O’Neill and Dalglish – neither of them are capable of bringing the ‘REDS’ back to their best! MO has never proven anything where he has been.he’s like a ‘cat on a hot tin roof’,scatter brained Irishman!,he’s had good players at Aston Villa and failed there!!!and Dalglish was carried by ‘Paisley’!!! no more to be said there! LFC need to look to the future not the past! unless they can get ‘RAFA’ back, best win record of all LFC managers! and in more difficult times!!!
