Neil Lennon disputes the Dallas verdict

|

Neil Lennon has challenged Hugh Dallas’ version of what went on between the Celtic manager and Dougie McDonald in the referee’s room at Tannadice.

During an interview with the BBC the Head of Refereeing at the SFA claimed: “Neil accepted that the decision was correct.”

Not so according to the Celtic manager.

Speaking to Channel 67 and the club website the Celtic boss gave his first hand version of events- unlike Dallas who passed comment based on McDonald’s version of events.

Lennon said: “I accepted the explanation, but still the decision rankles with me.
“I did the interview after the game and then I went to see the referee. I accepted his explanation of why he changed his mind, but I still don’t agree with it.”

SFA Chief Executive really should bring some measure of control to matters within Hampden Park.

While referee’s and their assistant’s are unable to comment directly on matches that they are involved in Dallas seems to have a free reign to comment on matches that he hasn’t even attended.

Surely any comment on the events at Tannadice should come direct from McDonald or from the refereeing superviser who attended the game.

In his latest interview discussing the appointment of Willie Collum for the Celtic-Rangers match Dallas gave the derby day rookie a ringing endorsement.

He said: “We gradually test our referees with big matches before they referee an Old Firm game. They’ll referee the Edinburgh derby, the Old Firm in Edinburgh, the Old Firm in Aberdeen.

“These are always tough matches, before we think we should test them in an Old Firm game, but Willie Collum is refereeing in the Champions League, so I don’t see the Old Firm game causing him any difficulties at all.”
