Willie Collum given Celtic-Rangers game

The SFA have appointed Willie Collum to take charge of Sunday’s Celtic-Rangers fixture.

Rookie Collum has never been put in charge of a Glasgow derby and will have a baptism of fire at Parkhead on Sunday.

The decision to give Collum the match is a major slap in the face for Craig Thomson, Steve Conroy, Dougie McDonald and Callum Murray who handled last season’s derby clashes.

Conroy has yet to referee a single SPL match this season and the experienced Thomson had been expected to be put in charge on Sunday.

Rangers have made public their unhappiness at Thomson’s recent performance in the Hearts-Rangers match where Nikica Jelavic picked up an ankle injury likely to rule him out of action for three to four months.

Thomson has been put in charge of Saturday’s Aberdeen-Hibs match with Murray taking control of the Hearts-St Mirren match at Tynecastle
