Boruc on form to hold Juventus to a draw (video)

|

Artur Boruc was back to his outstanding best last night as Fiorentina held Juventus to a 1-1 draw in Turin.

Unfortunately the former Celt injured a shoulder late in the match and will now be out of action until after the new year.

The injury effected the ‘keeper’s mobility but with all of Fiorentina’s substitutes having been used Boruc had to play on allowing Juve to equalise.

The former Celt looks to be revelling in life at his new club and the chance to re-establish himself as one of the world’s leading keepers.

Since replacing the injured Sebastian Frey in the Fiorentina side Boruc has lost three goals in five Serie A games with two of them being away to Juventus and Milan.

The Juventus-Fiorentina clash is one of the most explosive in the Italian game with bad blood dating back to the eighties when Juve including Liam Brady pipped Fiorntina to a rare scudetto.

When Juventus signed Roberto Baggio there were riots on the streets of Florence at the news as the rivalry moved to a new level.

Last night’s match in the Stadio Olympico received the big build up in the Italian press but after several visits to Ibrox facing Juventus wasn’t going to cause Boruc any sleepless nights.

Previewing the match he said: “I understand that this game stirs emotions among all players and supporters of Fiorentina, but it really has nothing to Glasgow derby. There things just happen.”

Fiorentina took the lead in the fourth minute when Juve defender Marco Motta headed a cross past his own keeper.

Juventus went all out to equalise but found Boruc in the inspired form that he showed in the 2006 and 2007 Champions League campaigns when he helped Celtic through the group stages.

The confidence and drive that could be questioned during the latter stages at Celtic have clearly returned with the fresh challenge that Serie A brings.

After various instinctive saves the holy goalie was finally beaten in the 82nd minute by a free kick from Simone Pepe.

On Tuesday Fiorentina are at home to Reggina in the Italian Cup followed by another home match against Udinese on Sunday in Seie A.
