CELTIC 1-3 RANGERS 24/10/2010 Ahead of the following weeks match with Rangers Lennon made the sort of comment that earns managers like Sir Alex Ferguson and Walter Smith adulation for mind games.
He said: “I would say that refereeing an Old Firm game at any time is difficult but when it is your first one, he might be a wee bit extra nervous. I just hope he has a strong game.”
Unfortunately for Lennon Collum had an abysmal game, totally out of his depth and making the sort of mistakes that should be seen far away from the professional game.
Collum’s rise towards the top of refereeing in Scotland has been down to Hugh Dallas determined to mentor through a Scottish referee to take part in the World Cup or European Championships regardless of their ability.
Throughout the match Collum bottled out of making tough decisions but with his back to the incident and seconds after the ball had struck his back because he was badly positioned he decided to award Rangers a penalty.
“He has got a lot of questions to answer,” Lennon answered after being asked about Collum’s performance. “I have problems with my team but you have to get the big decisions right. I’ll be asking for an explanation.
“I want to know why McCulloch was still on the pitch, it was blatant obstruction when we were breaking.
“It was a second yellow and they should have been down to 10 men in the second half.
“And I feel let down on the penalty incident for sure. It’s a big decision. I have seen a replay of the penalty and it looked soft. I’m not sure he saw it and I’m not sure why he has given it.”
The following weekend the lies and cover-up from Tannadice were exposed as Steven Craven revealed that the u-turn was entirely down to Dougie Dougie.
In the days following the Dundee United match shamed former Head of Refereeing Hugh Dallas ‘explained’ to Radio Clyde and Radio Scotland what had happened to reverse the decision knowing full well that Lennon had been lied to by one of his top referees.
HEARTS 2-0 CELTIC 10/11/2010
After praising officials at the double header with St Johnstone and home win over Aberdeen Lennon was next ‘in the dock’ when Celtic lost 2-0 to Hearts with Joe Ledley red carded and referee Craig Thomson denying another clear cut penalty.
Following the penalty decision Lennon was dismissed from the technical area.
“The referee just called me over on the advice of the fourth official and sent me to the stand. It was a scandalous decision,” Lennon said.
“I’ll seek clarification, but they’ll probably have their story ready. At the moment I don’t know where my relationship with officials lies.
“They keep getting big decisions wrong as far as I’m concerned – and game-changing decisions as well.
“Craig Thomson’s supposed to be one of the best in the country. It doesn’t say a lot for the rest if that’s the case.”
Having been lied to at Tannadice the previous month Lennon’s comments are understandable.
Despite grudgingly admitting to the lie and cover up no apology was issued by McDonald, Dallas or the SFA.
Lennon’s comment that ‘they’ll probably have their story ready’ won’t have gone down well with the Referee Committee of the SFA but after Steven Craven’s revelations from Tannadice the Celtic manager has a perfectly valid argument.

Joe I think deep down this is about one club and it’s certainly not Celtic.
If the authorities or even the media in Scotland thought they could just carry on with there honest mistakes for evermore well they have a real problem now.
I have never experienced as much propaganda in the press or radio or within the SFA in my life.
Deflect, blame Celtic, blame Reid, blame Lennon, and at the same time praise Smith (wattie).
Great recap. It makes me proud not to have paid my license fee for 5 years.
Spot on Joe.
The footballing parasites will continue to nibble at anything green and the press will contrive to spew their bile at the very mention of the name Lennon but this is the time for Celtic to stand their ground and finally slay the Scottish Goliath with the stone of truth.
Now watch the hordes run for cover, for they know we haven’t brought our smoking gun out of it’s case yet. Watch when we do. Hail Hail.
I e-mail BBC Sportsound just about every week …to complain about their ” Imbalanced ” and ” one sided ” reporting and commentaries .
For years and years I had to listen to a certain David Begg ( so obviously a Rangers fan it wasn’t real)making sly and snidy remarks about Celtic …whilst at the same time ….describing Davis and Lafferty of Rangers as ” Ulster men”….while any other player outwith this club …were Northern Irishmen….small point…but typical of this eejit…..
Now it seems his successor is Liam McLeod….and he’s every bit as bad.
If you’ve NEVER listened to this mob….do me a favour….LISTEN TO THEM A COUPLE OF TIMES…it’ll do your head in……
and before you tell me to switch them off…..
they are, unfortunately, my only means of catching Celtic live……
Sins of a past life I guess !!
LOTW:… 5 Years ??…how the hell???……..
Mike,
Go to ‘bbcresistance.com’ for a few pointers on not paying!
1. For a start, they have no right of entry to your home without your permission.
2. Don’t be daft enough to have the telly audible or in view when the sniffling inspectors come to the door.
3. Do not respond to their mail. If you want to go on the electoral register they will get your details from there. I’m still receiving letters addressed to the previous tenant, an Irishman named Mr O’ccuppier!
4. Be as fly as they are!
5. Do not fear the detector vans. They are empty and cannot ‘detect’ whether each individual home has a TV or not!
Until you are convinced you are getting a fair and balanced viewpoint (and not just on Celtic matters) refuse to give in to the legalised extortionists.
Erm, Hail Hail!
