Labour Party candidate forced into tweet retreat

John Mackay hates Celtic

Mackay meets Jim Murphy

The Labour Party’s prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross- John Mackay- has been forced to withdraw an attack on Celtic.

The cricket loving highlander enjoys cracking jokes to the amusement of his 600 followers and decided to join in the Celtic bashing that was a feature of yesterday’s rolling referee stories.

Mackay tweeted: “Celtic should be thrown out of Scottish football for their intimidation of our referees which has led them to strike.”

Two minutes later he added hilariously:  “Celtic would be welcome in the League of Ireland and would boost the economy. Osbourne should offer them as a permanent part of the UK loan.”

Realising that he had made his own hatred known on a public forum Mackay was forced to quickly delete his messages with predictable false qualified sincerity.

He later added: “I have learned a hard lesson tonight. Never make a tougue-in-cheek (sp) comment where the Old Firm are concerned. I take it all back.”

I think that the voters of Caithnes, Sutherland and Ross have learned an invaluable lesson and that underneath the social media trendy image of their potential Labour MP lurks someone who hates Celtic and would happily have them removed from Scotland.

Which other groups might Mackay also wish to see re-patriated?

Later on Mackay added the all time favourite comment of : “The irony is that most of my pals I tweet with on here are Celtic fans! As I said, a lesson learnt. Cheers.”

Is he going to advocate the removal of all teams from the SPL as they have ALL been critical of refs recently? Phud.

  • Chris D says:

Calm down, he clearly made a joke.
It’s ridiculous to describe him as ‘someone who hates Celtic and would happily have them removed from Scotland.’
