Last minute McGeady penalty wins it for Spartak

|

Aiden McGeady was the last minute hero as Spartak Moscow came from behind to beat Rostov 2-1 on Saturday.

Trailing to a 24th minute goal from Anri Enverovich the former Celt set up Welliton for the equaliser before converting a penalty to maintain his unbeaten domestic record with the Russian side.

Spartak travel to London this week to face Chelsea in the Champions League where McGeady will be in the spotlight.

Having opted to move to Moscow the Irish internationalist has demonstrated that there is life outside the Premiership.

During the summer there was speculation linking McGeady to Aston Villa and Birmingham City- annyone watching yesterday’s dull derby would look on that option as a bullet dodged.

I’m delighted that it all appears to be going so well for Aiden. Imagine him being able to go out for a few quiet beers on a Saturday night after the match with his team mates and, erm, nothing of note happening at all!

I’m sure he will don the Hoops again in the future a bigger, better, stronger and faster player.
