Lennon delighted by brilliant performance

|

Neil Lennon was delighted by Celtic’s record breaking 9-0 win over Aberdeen.

It was the biggest top division winning margin in over 40 years and just the message to send out after three weeks of refereeing lies dominating the agenda.

The Celtic boss was in agreement over the two red card decisions at today’s match and couldn’t hide his delight at how his free scoring side performed.

“It was a wonderful day and a brilliant performance,” Lennon said.

“It will have done the goal difference a power of good and the players a power of good and I was delighted for the supporters.

“To score nine against any opposition is a tremendous achievement and it is very rare that that happens.

“We were ruthless. I couldn’t fault the players, they were very professional and to keep a clean sheet again was very pleasing. It was a good day all round.”

Earlier this season Anthony Stokes was denied the opportunity to score from the penalty spot when Daryl Murphy netted at Kilmarnock.

The boot was on the other foot today when Stokes claimed the ball from two goal Gary Hooper who was eyeing up his hat-trick.

Stokes admitted: “He wanted to take the second penalty when he was on a hat-trick but I knew if had scored we would both have the chance to get the hat-trick.

“I was delighted to get my first hat-trick for Celtic. Gary and I got a ball each after the game.”

Celtic’s other goals were scored by Joe Ledley, substitute Paddy McCourt and Aberdeen’s Josh Magennis with a spectacular header into his own net.

Let’s be honest. We were good, but this was the worst Aberdeen side I have ever watched. We also had the advantage of actually getting calls that were deserved.

The ref only showed a moment of weakness when he was probably forced into red carding Rogne by the Aberdeen players.

While they pushed him to the call, it was however, the right call. The big man had to go. Pity really, especially since he was starting to look like the position should be his own.

The decision not to red card Langfield was another excellent call by the ref. Maloney was going away from the goal and not likely to score. All we have ever asked for was honest refereeing and just calls.

Muir did this and we also had one of those days when everything we hit landed in the net.

Let’s just remember though that last season we hit St.Mirren for seven and the put us out of the cup one week later!! One swallow doesn’t make a summer!!

You don’t sound a happy bunny Joe!

It’s a sad day when we are grateful for a ref for getting things right- just shows how bad things have been.

We could have had three pens at Tannadice if Dougie Dougie hadn’t been out to impress his boss.

Ebbe Skovdahl was in charge of some pathetic Aberdeen sides, after beating St Mirren 7-0 we lost in the cup.

There’s more mettle and goals about this team, for two season’s we only had Scott McDonald then Robbie Keane to get goals, we’ve now got two strikers each capable of 20 plus with a few others contributing as well, Joe Ledley could end up in double figures for the season.

Full points against Hearts and St Mirren will send out as powerful a message as 9-0 against Aberdeen.

    cheers
