SFA finally react to Hugh Dallas email story
Nine days after praising a man of high integrity Stewart Regan has decided to investigate the email story.
In a statement tonight the new SFA Chief Executive said: “I can confirm I have looked into the circulation of the email reported in the media at the weekend.
“Let me state categorically that I do not condone the transmission of any email content that might cause offence to anyone.
“I have spoken with staff and the matter will now be dealt with internally, in line with the Scottish FA’s Information Systems Acceptable Use Policy.”
With the Tannadice cover up fresh in mind and the Referee Committee still in place Regan’s reign has got off to a disastrous start.
On the first of November commenting on the Tannadice cover-up Regan said: “While we will work together to remedy the flaws in the administrative process that emerged as a result of the investigation, at no time was Hugh’s integrity ever called into question.
“Hugh has addressed the personal accusations himself in the statement but I wish to make plain that I am committed to supporting Hugh and the tremendous work he does for the Scottish FA, the refereeing fraternity and Scottish football in general.”
Making today’s announcement at 5pm before five SPL fixtures may be seen as an attempt to bury the story which most broadcasters have steered clear of.
The matter may be investigated internally but every day that Dallas remains in office with the accusations hanging over him is a black mark against the SFA and by extension their sponsors.
With such a high profile figure and contentious issue it seems strange that the SFA have not suspended Dallas while the investigation takes place.
The statement from the SFA doesn’t even name Dallas.
A swift enquiry and statement on the matter would go some way to restoring the tarnished reputation of the SFA and Regan.
