Watford produced their best form of the season last night to destroy league leaders QPR 3-1 at Loftus Road.
Fresh from their 3-2 win over Sven Goran Eriksson’s Leicester City last week Malky Mackay’s side turned on the style in front of the BBC cameras to become the first team to defeat QPR this season.
Danny Graham scored twice as the visitors raced into a three goal lead, with Jordan Mutch also on target, before a last minute consolation from former Rangers target Tommy Smith gave Warnock’s side a crumb of comfort.
Inconsistency has dogged Mackay’s young team this season but back-to-back wins have pushed Watford into eighth place just two points off a play-off place.
“All of my players to a man gave a nine out of 10 performance this evening – it was a real effort,” Mackay admitted. “Our movement was terrific and QPR couldn’t handle it.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game here tonight against a good team with a great manager who I think are going to be promoted.
“They have a lot of experienced players and I knew we had to match them. I think we did that and we passed it well. It’s doing it consistency now that counts.
“I knew they were a tough nut to crack and that they hadn’t conceded many at home – the atmosphere is always fantastic and I’ve enjoyed coming here over the last few years, we knew it was tough but you enjoy occasions like this and testing yourself on a nice pitch.”
