Former Celt Craig Beattie has distanced himself from speculation about a move to join Roy Keane at Ipswich Town.

The striker scored his first goal of the season for Swansea against Portsmouth on Friday night but couldn’t prevent Brendan Rodgers side from slipping to a 2-1 defeat.

Beattie missed the first two months of the season but has been a regular in the Swansea side over the last month.

The 26-year-old played alongside Keane at Celtic and while denying that a move is likely admitted his admiration for the Ipswich boss.

“I have a massive amount of respect for him,” the striker admitted. “He achieved so much in the game and he is a winner and a real good guy. He is hungry and very determined to succeed.

“I wasn’t even back fit (after a calf injury) when the rumour started. I’d been training for a couple of days after a three-month lay-off, so I was a bit flattered I was being mentioned. But it was just hearsay.”

Keane has been under pressure at Ipswich, especially after losing 4-1 to Norwich on Sunday but has a chance to take the club into the semi-final of the League Cup by beating West Brom at Portman Road tonight.

Since leaving Celtic in 2007 Beattie has played for West Brom, Crystal Palace, Preston and Sheffield United as well as Swansea.

Is it really just about one club? (guess who)
