Former Celt linked to Newcastle move

|

Malky Mackay Celtic newsWatford boss Malky Mackay has been linked with a move to Newcastle as assistant manager to Alan Pardew.

The former Celt is in his second season in charge at Vicarage Road and signed for West Ham in 2004 when Pardew was manager.

Watford are currently sitting in tenth place in The Championship despite spending less than £500,000 on players over the last two seasons.

Asked about reports linking him to Newcastle the Watford boss told BBC Radio: “At the moment no contact has been made, I’m not someone that’s going to instigate things like that. At the moment no contact’s been made between the clubs.”

“It’s flattering to be linked to such a big and prestigious club like that. But my focus is on Sunday ( away to Ipswich).

“You’ve got to look at these things as and when they come up and what the situation is, but at the moment my full focus is on us over the Christmas period here.”

Meanwhile it was business as usual for Celtic today as the players trained ahead of tomorrow’s match with St Johnstone.

Neil Lennon’s squad has been boosted by the return from injury of Scott Brown and James Forrest who both played in the 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock on Tuesday.

The St Johnstone match could signal the last appearances for a month of Cha Du-Ri and Ki Sung Yeung who are required by South Korea for the Asian Cup.

Lennon must decide whether to use both players while he can or take a look at the other options he has ahead of the matches against Motherwell and Rangers.

In attack Anthony Stokes looks like a direct replacement for Gary Hooper but one option could be to play Forrest through the middle, a position he has played in with success for the youth team.

My team for St Johnstone is listed below, assuming Fraser Forster is in goals pick your ten outfield players from those listed below.

CELTIC (4-2-3-1)Forster; Cha, Rogne, Majstorovic, Izaguirre; Brown, Ki; Forrest, McCourt, Murphy; Stokes

    You’d pick Daryl Murphy?

The guy is the sole reason we’ve picked up 3 points from the last 3 home games, his inability to control the ball, shoot or header is frightening, we can’t let this clown continue to pass up chances for us, give me Samaras up there any day.
