Former Celtic defender Alan Stubbs has emerged as one of the favourites to take over as manager of Motherwell.

According to a report in The Sun, Stubbs could be appointed within 48 with his first game being on Boxing Day against Rangers.

Stubbs was Tommy Burns record signing when he joined Celtic in 1996 in a 5 year deal from Bolton costing £2.5.

In 2001 he left Celtic to join his boyhood favourites Everton and remained at Goodison until he retired in 2008 except for a brief spell at Sunderland.

Stubbs is in charge of Everton’s youth side and also assists reserve boss Andy Holden.

Stuart McCall and Chris Sutton have also been linked with the job following Craig Brown’s swift departure for Aberdeen.
