New e-mail scandal hits the SFA

A second anti-catholic e-mail scandal is about to hit the SFA.

Members of staff sacked alongwith shamed former referee Hugh Dallas are due to have their appeals heard on Wednesday and are believed to be ready to highlight previous e-mail’s sent through the SFA which went unpunished.

Dallas was initially reported to have resigned for family reasons but it was later revealed that he was sacked and is appealing against his dismissal.

The former Head of Refereeing sent out an e-mail linking the visit of the pope to child abuse with five other SFA employees sacked for the same offence.

According to a source in today’s Sunday Mail: “They are furious and think they are the scapegoats for this. The SFA tried to make it look as if they have acted decisively but it seems they have opened a huge can of worms instead.

“If it’s proved that this second email has circulated between other staff, some of them very senior, it’s hardly fair.

“They believe they have been treated unfairly because this video went round other staff – including two senior guys – with no consequences.”

The report in the Sunday Mail paints a disturbing picture of life within the SFA where it seems commonplace to forward material in clear breach of their IT policy.

With several blue-chip sponsors such as Adidas, Thomas Cook, Carling and Sky Sports SFA Chief Executive Stewart Regan will have to act quickly to retain any sort of credibility for the organisation.

Dallas’s appeal will be heard tomorrow according to the report with the other appeals coming on Wednesday.

The Sunday Mail source added: “Whatever the outcome of his (Dallas) appeal, it could be a guide as to what might happen with the other three.

“They’re not going away quietly. They believe that there is serious hypocrisy in the way they have been treated. They believe their punishment didn’t fit the ‘crime’. They want their jobs back.”
