Olivier Kapo- 46th Celt of 2010

When Olivier Kapo replaced Daryl Murphy in yesterday’s 2-0 win over St Johnstone he became the 46th player to play for Celtic during 2010.

The former Birmingham and Wigan man became the 22nd player to make his debut this year- a sure sign that 2010 will go down as a year of transition.

Compiling the list was a real eye opener but from the first competitive match of the year the Celtic dressing room has been changing constantly.

Before the January transfer window had closed Danny Fox, Gary Caldwell, Stephen McManus, Barry Robson and Scott McDonald had been moved on, mainly to Middlesbrough, where they were joined by Chris Killen and Willo Flood.

Into their place came Jos Hooiveld, Thomas Rogne, Diomansy Kamara, Edson Braafheid and Robbie Keane.

The goals of Keane covered up for a multitude of sins with Braafheid an almost instant contender for any worst ever Celtic XI- he’ll certainly be known as the worst ever Celtic player to play in a World Cup Final enjoying a 15 minute cameo during which Spain scored the decisive goal against Holland.

Neil Lennon replaced Tony Mowbray in the dug-out with Johan Mjallby making a welcome return as the season was salvaged with second place and a 2-1 win over Rangers secured.

The end of the season saw fans favourites Artur Boruc and Aiden McGeady leave with no realistic prospect of retaining Keane.

Skipper Stephen McManus’s move to Middlesbrough was made permanent, Lee Naylor, Zheng Zhi and Koki Mizuno all left on free transfers as Lennon’s own recruitment drive began.

Not one but two left-backs came in- Charlie Mulgrew and Emilio Izaguirre- alongside a raft of strikers in Gary Hooper, Anthony Stokes and Daryl Murphy.

Joe Ledley was a surprise capture from Cardiff on a free whilst Efrain Juarez and Biram Kayal jetted in from Mexico and Israel.

A cyber pint is on offer for anyone that can name the magnificent 44 to have worn the hoops this year, possibly just as difficult add your vote to the player of the year poll below.
