Strathclyde Police call off Celtic v Kilmarnock match

Game Off

Strathclyde Police have called off Celtic’s match with Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Forty eight hours ahead of kick-off and with the predicted thaw well underway the police have called off the Celtic match as well as the Dundee United- Motherwell match at Tannadice.

After missing out on a full card last weekend the SPL were hopeful that with improving conditions they would be able to play most of this weeks matches.

“I am slightly surprised that the Police have issued advice so early,” admitted SPL Chief Neil Doncaster. “Especially when a substantial thaw is forecast over the next two days.

“However, when Police advice is on the grounds of safety, we have no choice but to postpone the games.”

No decisions have been made on the St Mirren- St Johnstone and Hamilton-Hibs fixtures which will also be under the control of Strathclyde Police.

No date has yet been scheduled for the re-arranged fixture although both clubs are free next midweek.
