Gent star El Ghanassy

Celtic have been quoted with an interest in Gent striker Yassine El Ghanassy.

The 20-year-old striker is eligible to play for Morocco and Belgium and was watched by Celtic scouts during Wednesday’s Europa League with Levski Sofia.

El Ghanassy has only scored four goals this season but was watched during Gent’s 1-0 win over the Bulgarian’s by scouts from Marseilles and Lyon as well as Celtic.

The win lifted Gent into second place in Group C needing a draw away to Lille in their final match to qualify for the knock-out stage alongside Sporting Lisbon.

Gent would be looking for a fee of over £1m for the striker who is viewed as more of a creator than taker of chances.

El Ghanassy broke into the Gent team last season helping to take them to finish third and beat Feyenoord in the play-off for the Europa Cup.

Celtic have been busy looking at young strikers this season with Shahdon Winchester of Trinidad and Tobago on trial earlier this season while Mexican/American Adrian Ruelas made an appearance as a substitute in the October friendly with Bohemians.

Winchester scored in T&T’s 4-1 win over St Vincent & Grenadines last week in a u-20 World Cuip qualifier.

T&T face home and away matches with Suriname to qualify for the 12 team CONCACAF final round in April which will provide five places for the U-20 World Cup Finals.

The reliable Yanks Abroad website reports that Ruelas is still on trial with Celtic which explains why he missed this week’s U-20 internationals against Mexico and Columbia which were drawn 1-1.

Redknapp will let Robbie Keane go

First up, he would cost £4million, which is a no no. Secondly, he wasn’t watched by Neil Lennon or any Scottish based scouts because they couldn’t fly due to the snow. Thirdly, the real player of interest at Gent is Marko Suler, the Slovenian defender. Apart from all that you did fine.
