Calum Murray gets the Scottish Cup tie with Rangers

|

Callum Murray Celtic newsCalum Murray has been put in charge of Sunday’s Rangers-Celtic Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox.

The Edinburgh based official has handled one previous Celtic-Rangers clash- in May of last season when goals from Lee Naylor and Marco Fortune gave Celtic a 2-1 win.

During that match Murray handed out 7 yellow cards and sent off Lee McCulloch for a last minute lunge at Aiden McGeady.

Craig Thomson had a surprisingly competent performance in the new year derby ending a run of abysmal displays from whistlers in Scotland’s showpiece match.

Murray’s appointment always looked likely after Thompson and the below par Willie Collum took charge of the weekend Co-Operative Cup semi-finals.

Collum achieved the unusual distinction of managing to get through 90 minutes of a semi-final without issuing a single card.

Murray has already been in charge of five Celtic games this season, the most recent being the 2-0 Scottish Cup win at Berwick, and has handled two Rangers games.

Alan Cunningham and Wliie Conquer will be Murray’s assistant at Ibrox with Iain Brines keeping the peace as fourth official.

Collum has been handed the Aberdeen-Dunfermline tie which will be screened live by the BBC.
