Barry Robson faces new injury worry

|

Barry Robson Celtic newsFormer Celt Barry Robson could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a horror foot injury during Middlesbrough’s 1-1 draw with Preston.

Robson has had a miserable time of it with injuries this season and had to be substituted at half-time.

Tony Mowbray admitted: “He’s got a gaping hole in his foot just below his ankle, obviously created by a stud.

“It wasn’t very pleasant to see at half-time. I don’t know how many stitches he’s had in there but he was unable to continue.

“The doc will tell us whether it’s something that will cause us a problem or only a flesh wound. But it wasn’t very pleasant to see.”

Robson’s injury was another blow for Mowbray as his side once again conceded a late goal.

There was some renewed hope around the Riverside Stadium after last week’s 4-0 win away to Bristol City but bottom of the table Preston are fighting for their lives.

Matthew Bates put Middlesbrough ahead in the 71st minute but with just two minutes left to play Billy Jones earned the visitors a precious point.

“The frailties of what we’ve talked about these last seven or eight weeks are still there to see,” Mowbray moaned afterwards. “And you saw those late on with Preston getting their equaliser.

“When teams start throwing their centre-halves up front, your midfielders – being honest guys – will track back into the box to mark them, which might give the appearance of us defending deep late on.

“But when you have a situation with 10 minutes to go with Taylor putting the ball into the box and all Lita has to do is stick it in the net then no matter how many men the opposition throw into the box.

“It is irrelevant as that’s the game dead and buried at 2-0 but he didn’t and they took a chance and got themselves a point at the end. You have to get that second goal.

“The irony is that I thought our performance today was more dominant than at Bristol City yet there, we scored four but only get one here.”

Elsewhere in the Championship a double from Andrew Crofts helped Norwich to a 2-1 win away to Sheffield United.

On the back of last season’s League One triumph the Canaries are pushing hard for an automatic promotion place with largely the same group of players.

“Most of the lads are untried at this level, but my God they are taking to it brilliantly,” Lambert admitted proudly.

“You look at the lads I’ve taken, they’ve got great hunger and they deserve every bit of credit that comes their way.

“It’s incredible what we have done from where we have come from. In the second half we were excellent.”

Watford’s seven match winning run came to a halt yesterday at Cardiff while Darren O’Dea and Colin Healy were in the Ipswich side that beat Doncaster 3-2.

On Tuesday Ipswich take a one goal lead to the Emirates Stadium hoping to see off Arsenal and book a place in the final of the Carling Cup.
