Robbie Keane completes West Ham deal

Robbie Keane Celtic newsRobbie Keane has completed a complex transfer from Spurs to West Ham.

It is believed that the Hammers have paid an initial ‘loan fee’ of £1m which will be converted into a £6m deal if they avoid relegation.

West Ham are currently at sitting at the bottom of the Premier League with manager Avram Grant under constant speculation about his job.

Speaking about the Keane deal after beating Nottingham Forest 3-2 in the FA Cup Grant said: “Robbie Keane is not just a good player, but a good character. I am really happy to have him. He can help us a lot and brings plenty of quality.

“The squad is not bad but, because of the injuries we’ve had, we needed more players for competition and fresh legs. We had injuries in the first half of the season.”

After a season of frustration on the sidelines at Spurs the former Celtic striker is looking forward to being thrown into the relegation dogfight.

He said: “Obviously I’m delighted, I’m just happy to get back playing football again.

“It’s been frustrating for me, I don’t like to be paid for sitting on the bench, I like to play and hopefully I’ll get a lot of opportunities here to help this club move forward.

“It feels right; it’s a fantastic club with great tradition. At the moment they’re not in the best position but I’m here hopefully to help the squad. I’m sure, with the other players we have here, we can do it.

“The top has been fairly close and the bottom is very close. You get a couple of results and you move fairly swiftly up the table. That’s something I’m here to do and hopefully help the team.”
