Ki targets Asian Cup final place (video)

Less than three days after South Korea’s extra-time win over Iran the Celtic midfielder will be in action against Japan in the semi-final of the Asian Cup.

Japan came from behind to defeat hosts Qatar 3-2 on Friday afternoon while it took an extra-time strike from substitute Yoon Bit-garam to see off Iran on Saturday night.

Tuesday’s semi-final gives the Korean’s little time to recover but with a final place in sight Ki won’t entertain any notion of tiredness.

He said: “We have to just rest well, have to eat well and prepare mentally.

“If we keep thinking we are tired, then we will be tired but we have to think that we will be okay and then we will be fine.

“It’s not going to be easy. We don’t have enough time to have a rest but we will prepare mentally very well and also it’s going to be an interesting game against Japan.

“Each team knows each other very well. They normally pass very well in midfield and they have good attackers but I think they have problems with their defence. We have to watch ourselves and prepare well for the next game.”

In the other semi-final Australia play Uzbekistan which sets up the possibility of a South Korea-Australia final after they fought out a 1-1 draw in the group stage.
