Lenny hails ‘bonkers’ Samaras as potentially world class

Delighted Celtic boss Neil Lennon hailed match-winner Georgios Samaras after today’s derby win over Rangers.

The Greek striker scored his first SPL goals of the season to defeat Rangers and send Lennon’s makeshift team four points clear of Rangers.

Straight after the match the Celtic boss joined Charlie Nicholas, Neil McCann and David Tanner in the Sky Sports studio.

“The one thing about Sammy is that his inconsistency is consistent,” Lennon explained. “But on his day he can be as good as this, I’ve seen him play in World Cup’s like this.

“He definitely has fantastic attributes- we just need to get into his head a wee bit more that he can achieve it.

“I thought that he was unplayable today.”

As Nicholas joined in, neatly avoiding stating the obvious about the goal hero, Lennon put the words into the Sky pundits mouth …’Bonkers’ Lennon smiled with the pundits in agreement.

“He was on his own basically,” Lennon added describing the build up to the penalty. “He has that athletisism to get away from people and the confidence to go and take the penalty

“I spoke to Gordon (Strachan) yesterday about him and he said ‘just let him play up there on his own’.

“I thought that he started the game very well and from then on.. He had the beating of Bougherra and Weir in the air most of the time. He played the two of them on his own brilliantlt.

“Like Charlie says he has all the attributes to be not just top class, world class. But it’s getting him to do that on a consistent basis.”
