Twitter aftermath to Celtic win

|

Neil Lennon Celtic newsIt’s certainly a sign of the times when twitter features heavily in the aftermath of a Glasgow derby with Neil Lennon and Kyle Lafferty clashing on the pitch and on-line.

Little could the founders of the messaging service have realised that their new toy would be firing verbal volleys between the two giants of Scottish football.

After the match Lennon avoided a handshake with Lafferty but shook hands with other Rangers players before saluting the Celtic support who were celebrating Georgios Samaras’ double.

The Lennon/Lafferty incident was raised in the after match media conference with the Celtic boss giving a cryptic explanations of his action: “You might read about it on his Twitter page.”

A scan through Lafferty’s twitter account to October reveals the message that the Celtic boss had in mind.

After Rangers 3-1 win at Parkhead Lafferty tweeted: “Sweet o very sweet. Hahaha lennon lennon what’s the score hahaha.”

That sort of comment is tame by supporter standards but players ought to show a bit of judgement and keep their gloating more private.

It’s hard to think of a player further from Lennon’s first team plans than Marc Crosas but that didn’t dilute the Catalan’s joy at today’s result.

Crosas was warming up behind Allan McGregor’s goal when Samaras opened the scoring and was clearly overwhelmed by the strength of the celebrations.

“That was a game i’ll never forget even if i didn’t play!” he tweeted. “I love Celtic and I always will..thanks for your support once again!you are AMAZING!”

It’s unlikely that Crosas will still be at Celtic when the transfer window closes but through his twitter account he seems a very grounded individual who appreciates the lifestyle that football has given him.

Joe Ledley has had his share of critics recently but won the support over with the interception and pass that set up the opening goal.

The Welshman tweeted: “Wot a result today. Everyone is buzzing!! Well and truly deserved. Out played them……. C’mon the hoops.”

Jos Hooiveld hasn’t had much to smile about in his year at Celtic but certainly loved the moment when Sammy found the back of the net.

Hooiveld tweeted: “What a game boys!! Thomas Rogne was on fire! MOTM for me, and what an effort from big Sam. Different class!!”

He added later: “Enjoy the evening! I’m sure that won’t be a problem for me, cheers!”
