Murdo MacLeod's treble prediction

|

Murdo MacLeod Celtic newsMurdo MacLeod believes that his old club are on course for the treble.

MacLeod played a major part in some famous Celtic successes but never managed to capture all three trophies in the same season.

Despite drawing yesterday’s Scottish Cup clash with Rangers most supporters believe that the momentum is swinging Celtic’s way.

Three derby clashes between February 20 and March 20 will have a huge bearing on the destination of the trophies with MacLeod believing that Neil Lennon could make a clean sweep of the silverware in his first season in charge.

“Let me say this right now if Celtic can continue to play like that for the rest of the season then they could land the Treble,” he told the Daily Record. “I find it hard to see who is going to beat them on current form.

“They never panicked and passed Rangers off the park. No one inside Ibrox could argue with the fact the Hoops should have won.

“It was a great performance, driven by Scott Brown who arguably had the finest moment so far of his Celtic career. The team ethic was fantastic.

“Emilio Izaguirre and Mark Wilson bombed forward every time they had the chance and Ki Sung-Yueng, Biram Kayal, Joe Ledley and Brown kept the ball off the Rangers midfield for the entire second half.

“Rangers were over-run in midfield despite the fact Celtic had to take off goalscorer Kris Commons who played well until he had to be sacrificed when Fraser Forster was red-carded.

“However, it took a wonder save from Rangers keeper Allan McGregor to tip a Georgios Samaras header over the top and stop Celtic winning 3-2.

“Celtic are favourites for the replay but football never works out quite like that, does it? It just takes one game to turn that all on its head.”

After two visits to Ibrox Neil Lennon is unbeaten as Celtic manager.

The once inexperienced rookie got his tactics spot on yesterday from his starting XI, tactics and substitutions.

After a ropey December where he continued to keep the faith and talk up his players the man from Lurgan looks at home in the job and comfortable with the demands of managing Celtic.

Noting that transformation MacLeod added: “He is a new manager, has had hard times since taking over at Celtic and has taken lots of stick for it.

“But Lennon is is now getting a positive reaction from the side and there is a real fight and team spirit.

“The way Celtic are playing under him will see Celtic Park filled to the rafters every week for the league run-in as the battle for the silverware nears its climax.

“That is massive credit to the manager and will give the team a huge boost on and off the pitch.

“Full houses, I am sure, are not something that will be lost on Lennon’s employers either.”
