Georgios Samaras and the Italian connection

|

Georgios Samaras Celtic newsGeorgios Samaras’ lawyer has asked FIFA to tighten up regulations after his client was linked with half a dozen Serie A clubs last month.

Lazio, Juventus, Bari and Palermo were all apparently linked with a move for the Celtic striker who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Francesco Nicolato is believed to be behind the rumours with Dr Gregory Ioannidis writing to FIFA to reign in the actions of the Italian middleman.

“This person has never spoken to us, we do not know who is he and Celtic confirmed to us, in writing, that they have never spoken to him,” Ioannidis told Sky Sports.

“This is not an unusual situation. It happens all the time and intensifies in the months of January and August. There is one fundamental error and that is the lack of a regulatory framework based on a strong legal foundation.

“Fifa is no longer responsible for the regulation of agents and that means that National Federations have to supervise the agents’ profession. This is not always appropriate.

Georgios Samaras Celtic news“In societies where the mentality allows public relations to have a better standing than the law, people like Mr Nicolato would always survive unpunished. This does happen in England too and it has happened to us previously.

“The FA has, perhaps, the most stringent regulatory framework after the US, with solid and fair rules. However, there is always room for improvement, particularly in terms of disciplinary proceedings and the application of sanctions.”

Celtic have offered Samaras a one year extension to stay on in Scotland but it’s almost certain that the former Manchester City man will move to the continent at the end of the season.
