Mike Porky Parry joins the Real Madrid of radio

Popular radio host Mike ‘Porky’ Parry is back on air today co-hosting the 606 football phone-in on 5live.

Parry quit TalkSport, the station that he helped to define, earlier this month following their decision to bring in former Sky Sports duo Andy Gray and Richard Keys.

Discussing his new role Porky said: “In broadcasting terms I feel like I’ve just had a call from the manager of Real Madrid.

“What an opportunity to rise to the challenge of hosting one of the most famous slots in British broadcasting. It’s FA Cup weekend and I can’t wait to meet the 606 listeners for the first time.”

The loss of Parry has sparked outrage amongst some TalkSport listeners who had grown to love his unique balance of mad cap ideas mixed with an eye and flair for a good news story.

Keys and Parry have had a decidedly average start to their radio careers. Calling upon their extensive contact books they have been able to get some big names on air but steered well clear of any contentious issues.

Controversy and opinion can be guaranteed on the 606 phone-in tonight with the combination of Parry and Robbie Savage certain to set off a few fireworks.

“The last time I spoke to Mike Parry was after hearing him slag me off on talkSPORT for owning a yellow Ferrari,” Savage revealed. “I was driving in it at the time, so I pulled over, rang the station and gave him a piece of my mind.

“Now Mike has moved on and, this Saturday tea-time, he’ll be appearing on my 606 show on Radio Five Live.

“I know Mike is a deep thinker and I’ve been amazed by some of the things I’ve heard him say over the years.

“Like his belief that, one day, man will run the 100m in one second flat; his suggestion that referees should move around the pitch on Segway scooters or his idea that Formula 1 safety would be improved by the cars being fitted with ejector seats.

“Add that to the fact that he comes from Chester and there’s only one conclusion to draw – he must be related to my wife.”
