Seven Celts picked for Scotland squad

Seven Celtic players have been selected for the Scotland u-17 squad to compete in the elite qualifying round of the European Championships in Italy next month.

Ross Mathie’s side face three matches against the hosts, Slovakia and the Czech Republic between March 9 and 14.

The Celtic connection were the driving force in reaching this stage with Scotland beating Macedonia and Luxemburg in September before drawing 0-0 with Switzerland.

Joe Chalmers scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Macedonia while Marcus Fraser and John Herron scoring in the 2-1 win over Luxemburg.

Chalmers, Fraser and Herron are joined in this squad by James Wightman, Lewis Kidd, Mo Yaqub and Islam Feruz.
