Celtic’s u-19 side face Inverness Caley Thistle at Lennoxtown this afternoon, kick-off 1pm.
The match kicks off a frantic period for Stevie Frail’s side who travel to St Johnstone on Tuesday followed by another trip to Dundee United on Saturday.
After just one league match in three months the next eight days will have a major bearing on how the season shapes up.
“I know that it’s cliched but we can’t look beyond today’s match,” Frail said. “All our thoughts are on Caley Thistle and taking the points.
“There’s no point looking ahead at what’s round the corner and the players know that.
“They’ve played well since we returned from Turkey and all our thoughts this week have been on playing Caley Thistle.”
Frail’s side are currently sitting in second place seven points behind Rangers but with three games in hand.
Before Celtic kick-off today Hearts play Rangers at Riccarton with the Edinburgh side, also sitting seven points behind Rangers, ‘enjoying’ a classic yo-yo season.
A 4-0 win over Hibs in the league was followed by a 1-0 defeat in the SFA Youth Cup. In the league Hearts lost 7-0 at home to Hamilton, who Celtic beat 8-0, then beat Motherwell 5-0 a week later.
Frail will keep his side’s attention on their own match today looking to build up some momentum after winning three games on the bounce since coming back from their January training trip to Turkey.
The goals of James Keatings have been a major factor so far this season with the striker looking to add to his tally of 13 league goals today against the bottom placed side.
Moving up to the top division has proved difficult for Caley Thistle who have lost 7 out of their 9 matches and have still to play a competitive match this season.
